Enjoy the morning at Daitaiji Temple
The fresh air of early morning. The solemn atmosphere surrounded by historic Buddhist statues. The sunlight shining through the trees on the temple mountain and illuminating the hall. The fog on the sliding doors that seems to be falling in front of your eyes at any moment. People who have participated in the morning service say that they feel different things at different times of the day.
Usually, living in the city, we rarely notice the passage of time, the angle of sunlight, the temperature and humidity of the air on our skin, or the change in the atmosphere around us. By participating in the Morning Service, you will realize how dull your senses have been.
Quiet talk with the chief priest
The abbot is the only monk at Daitaiji. There is no powerful sutra reading by a large group of monks as you would see at Koyasan or Eiheiji, but it may be enough for you to face yourself. Also, because the priest is the only one present, he is able to take his time to answer your questions and talk casually about the temple treasures and the current situation at the temple.
