Agriculture / Individual and Family / Nature Experience

"Hideko Nouen(Farm)" is located in the Ota district, where the countryside is beautiful and peaceful. Farmer Hideko Karino accepts visitors to experience farming while growing seasonal vegetables. Cul

Vegetables are delicious and lovely because you grew them yourself.

Colorful seasonal vegetables in the field. Children running around on the soil. In the fields of “Hideko Nouen (Farm)”, surrounded by rich nature, children and adults can experience farming together. Children can sow seeds, plant seedlings, set up nets to prevent damage from animals, and, of course, harvest the vegetables they have grown. Many of the vegetables we usually see in supermarkets are beautifully shaped and sized, but in reality, vegetables of various characteristics are produced, such as vegetables of uneven size, vegetables with flaws, and radishes and carrots with two halves at the ends. No matter what kind of vegetables you grow, you will become strangely attached to the ones you have grown yourself. Such an experience is for adults and children alike.

What inspired Ms. Hideko Karino to start “Hideko Nouen(Farm)” as a place to experience agriculture was seeing his relatives’ children happily playing in the fields.

My cousin’s children often come to visit me. I would take them into the field with me and ask them to find okra, zucchini, and chili peppers, just like a game. Okra is often chopped up when it is served at the table. They have never seen okra in its fruiting state, so they seem to get excited when they can’t find it. Seeing that, I thought that going to an amusement park is fun, but touching the food you eat is also fun,” he said.

Although the agricultural experience may conjure up images of just harvesting vegetables, the important point of “Hideko Nouen(Farm)” is to experience not only the harvesting but also the process of producing the vegetables. Some of the children who visit the farm say that they have become vegetable lovers since they started eating vegetables from “Hideko Nouen(Farm)” .

Vegetables that you grow yourself taste so good, and you get attached to them. After the farming experience, when they send me videos of their children fighting over edamame (green soybeans) and eating them, it makes me happy and makes me want to do it again next year.

Improve your farming skills as if you were playing a game!

The content of the experience is constantly improved based on feedback from customers who actually participate. We will divide the courses and adjust the content of the experience to suit the participants’ objectives, experience, and skills, such as those who want to experience nature with their children, those who have a home vegetable garden for their own home, and beginners in agriculture who want to start farming in earnest.

When high school baseball players came to help out with muscle training, they were happy to do the work of carrying 20 kg bags of rice to the warehouse. There is a wide range of jobs in agriculture in a nutshell, from heavy labor to simple tasks that anyone can do, so you are sure to find something that suits you.

“I think they’ll get some hands-on experience handling the machine, but it can be dangerous, so I’m thinking it would be fun to have the first time be a study of touching the machine, the second time to actually run it, and the third time to do something more difficult …… and then work up the levels.
I think it would be fun to work on the machine in a fun way. For example, we could make it like a half-trip, where participants stay at the nearby Daitaiji Temple and do farm work for two hours during the day while sightseeing, or we could allow them to freely use a whole row of the farm, or if they cannot come for some reason, we could have them order a vegetable set and send it to them. Because I am a one-person farmer, I can be flexible in the content of the experience. It would be nice if we could become a place where people think of visiting [Hideko Nouen(Farm)] as if they were visiting a friend or relative.”

Depending on the weather or busy season, it may be difficult to accept visitors. We recommend that you contact us in advance to confirm if you wish to participate in the experience. On the day of the experience, please be careful of insects, injuries, heat stroke, etc., and bring clothes that can get dirty and a change of clothes. Although we take measures to prevent animal damage, wild animals such as hardy deer and wild boars may destroy crops. However, because of the hard work involved, the vegetables grown with such time and effort will be exceptional. Enjoy a realistic agricultural experience at “Hideko Nouen (Farm)”
