Enjoy the food of Ota
Three times each week, “Meal Restaurant [Megumi]of Ota River” offers seasonal dishes in a buffet style. Upon entering the wooden classroom with its nostalgic atmosphere, one is greeted with a menu of over a dozen dishes, including simmered dishes, deep-fried dishes, salads, omelettes, and sweet dishes. All of these dishes are prepared with warmth and care by local mothers who put a lot of time and effort into their cooking.
Fried horse mackerel is precious. Eat it, eat it,” said a friendly staff member of ‘Ota no Sato’ to us. On the menu that day were old-fashioned croquettes that spread the flavor of the potatoes themselves. Cute bite-sized cabbage rolls. Hijiki seaweed simmered in a gentle flavor. Kintoki-mame (kidney beans), agar agar, and kumquat nectar. Each bite is sure to fill your heart.
Take a breather in an old wooden schoolhouse.
The ingredients used are, of course, the vibrant crops grown by local farmers. The price is a reasonable 1,000 yen for a delicious side dish of seasonal vegetables, rice, miso soup, and after-meal coffee. You can enjoy the bounty of Ota with ease.
Not only is the food delicious, but it is also a rare opportunity to have lunch in a school classroom. Dining in a warm wooden room with sunlight streaming in through the large windows will also feel like a luxurious experience.
